Crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold, from its sculptural rectangular case to its supple, integrated bracelet, this Gondolo is pure perfection. Effortlessly glamorous on the wrist, it was produced in small numbers during a transitional era for mechanical watchmaking.

But to speak of the Gondolo purely in material terms would miss its cultural significance. The name itself is a tribute to Gondolo & Labouriau, the legendary Brazilian retailer whose 19th-century partnership with Patek Philippe helped elevate the brand to global prominence. In early 20th-century Rio, a “Patek” became a synonym for any watch, regardless of maker. Such was the power of this alliance. Though Gondolo & Labouriau shuttered in 1935, their name lived on in Patek Philippe’s catalogues, attached to a line of watches that channel the spirit of that golden age.

This reference 5009 from the 90s, with its early-modernist silhouette and elegant gold construction, is a continuation of that tradition. A watch that carries forward a legacy born in Rio and shaped in Geneva. 

Floating above it all is the cinematic twist: a softly rose-tinted crystal that casts the dial in a warm, filtered glow like seeing the road ahead through Pierre Cardin’s rose-colored windshield.
